SIG member Jacki Miller just sent in this message to the VGS Scandinavian SIG, so I am passing it on to you:
Syttende Mai and Norwegian Constitution A day late, but to those with Norwegian Heritage, happy Syttende Mai. It is also the 200 year old anniversary of the second-oldest “living” constitution in the world. The United States constitution is the oldest. The document was signed at Eidsvoll, Norway. I visited this historic building. Many signers of the Eidsvoll Constitution settled in central southern Wisconsin. A hundred genealogists in Norway have located 112 descendants of signers here in my “summer” area. Are any of you that are of Norwegian descent an “Eidsvollsmenn Descendant”? The project, eidsvollsmenn.no is searching a database of 63,000, as of now 4,138 have lived in the United States. The full article Historic Heritage is found on the Wisconsin State Journal’s front page on Saturday, May 17, 2014. In 2002, I toured the historic building in Norway where the constitution was signed.
Einar Drugge sent a photo of his Troll Family. The comment wouldn’t display the photo, So I am passing it on to you with his message:
Tack för att du skicka mig ditt foto. Här är ett foto av en del av min familj. Farfar Olof och barnbarn Sigfried och Helga. Jag önskar att Helga skulle raka sig!
(Thank you for sending me your photo. Here is a photo of part of my family. Grandfather Olof and grandson Sigfried and Helga. I wish that Helga would shave!)
Can you hear me now? Hej, It’s me, Oscar the Web Troll. I posted my first message to you yesterday. You didn’t get it because I forgot to set up the message distribution for the VGS Scandinavian SIG Website. I did that this morning. So as I always say, “If you don’t get this email, email me back and tell me!” Seriously, I need to know that this system is working. If you can read this post, please let me know you received the email. Tack så mycket!
Hej, I am Oscar, the Web Troll! I come from Ödeshög, in Östergötland County, Sweden. I was named for Oscar Svensson, the grandfather of one of the members of your VGS Scandinavian Genealogy Special Interest Group. He came from Ödeshög, as well, back in 1887.
I am here to be the Website Assistant. I will help Larry with messages and keep updating the site. This will become a great Website to help you to research the genealogy of your Nordic ancestors.
I hope you don’t think I’m too ugly. That sort of comes with the territory for us trolls. You should have seen the guy they rejected for this job. In fact, here’s a peek:
Aren’t you glad you got me?
You’ll be seeing a lot more of me in the future. In the mean time, don’t forget our next meeting is at 10:00am Friday April 18, 2014 at Sea Breeze Regional Recreation Center.
